Polygon Manager
The Polygon Data Capture Tool provides a Geographical Information System (GIS) that customers can use to digitise features such as building outlines, industrial sites, residential estates or others for use as Pre-Determined Attendance (PDA) polygons, contact polygons or area boundaries, and then store them in a database.
Using the Polygon Data Capture Tool, customers can:
- Add shapes (polygons) representing buildings or other features of interest to the map, and record additional details about the features
- Copy features from vector mapping layers, for example, building outlines from the Ordnance Survey’s MasterMap, for example, to use as PDA polygons
- Locate polygons added to the mapIndicate areas that have a Pre-Determined Attendance (PDA) plan using polygons
- Add details of Access Points for PDA polygons
- Display maps of the country at different resolutions
- Display additional layers on the map representing features such as flood projections, hydrants, pipelines or other required information
- Navigate around the map using the pan and zoom features
- Navigate to a specific location using the map sheet reference or National Grid Reference for the location
- Display multiple map views of the same area at different resolutions
- Measure distances between points on the map
- Measure the perimeter and area of a building or other feature on the map
The Polygon Manager application allows users to manage polygons that represent a range of spatially defined objects in the C&C and other systems (e.g. Pre-Determined Attendance [PDA] areas and Contact areas).
When an incident is located, Polygon Manager point-in-polygon processing identifies which polygons of which types the incident is located in, which allows retrieval of the PDA (i.e. number and type of resources) and appropriate Contacts (i.e. which local authority area, police area, etc).
Facilities within the capture toolkit allow for the import of polygons captured in third party tools (e.g. the Innogistics FSEC Toolkit, which supports fire cover modelling) and to add / construct polygons. Polygon Manager provides management tools to allow users to maintain the datasets. Polygon Manager also provides facilities for storage / processing of polygons such as ellipses defining the probable location of a mobile phone making an emergency call, exclusion zones defined by Control Room Operators etc.
