This map is the first of four 1:200,000 scale
maps to be produced by Infoterra Ltd. in response
to a request from DRK (Deutsche Rote Kreuz – German
Red Cross) as part of the GMES Respond service.
Respond (www.respond-int.org) is a GMES Service
Element (GSE) and has very recently produced
satellite image derived maps for DRK for the
humanitarian crisis in Darfur (Sudan) and Chad.
These maps have been very well received by the
UN Humanitarian Information Centre (HIC) in Khartoum,
currently monitoring the humanitarian crisis
in Darfur. Einar Bjorgo (UNOSAT) sent reports
that HIC “…find the Respond products
useful and would like to add several Respond
maps to their core distribution products - using
the original Respond maps.”
