Environmental Management

Infoterra offers a range of services to help with your environmental management projects. By utilising cutting edge satellite imaging technology, mapping can be tailored to your requirements and carried out almost anywhere in the world at a range of detail levels. Infoterra’s airborne sensor portfolio can also be utilised for precision applications and existing products such as GeoPerspectives™ imagery and LandBase™ can form the basis of a mapping solution.

Our team of experienced geoscientists combine highly skilled image interpretation and semi-automated image processing techniques to extract the maximum information from the available data. This can then be mapped to your requirements allowing the quantification of key environmental impact indicators crucial for monitoring and due diligence applications.

Typical environmental management projects may include one or more of the following components but please contact us to discuss your specific project.

Baseline Mapping

Such maps typically include infrastructure and cultural annotation displayed over high quality imagery and processed to highlight relevant environmental impact features. This mapping can be carried out at a range of scales from a regional ‘scoping’ study at 1:100 000 based on medium resolution satellite data, to site specific mapping at 1: 2000 from VHR satellite or airborne data.

Land Cover and Habitat Mapping

Infoterra are experts in land cover mapping and can offer services from ‘core’ mapping of features like forestry and urban areas to hyperspectral land cover projects identifying key species of vegetation. Our expert image interpreters can map and quantify subtle habitat variations and impact indicators such as tracks and clearings. Where airborne imagery is available LandBase can form the framework for your bespoke land cover map.

Contamination & Pollution

Infoterra can use a combination of expert image interpretation and processing techniques to identify evidence of oil pollution on the ground and water as well as indirect evidence of water contamination. This information can then be used for ground truthing and total contamination estimates. Vegetation may also prove an indicator of contamination by mapping vigour anomalies.

Change Detection & Monitoring

Multi-temporal data can be utilised to identify and map any type of change visible in remote sensing imagery. Remediation work to a site may be monitored for effectiveness with repeat studies.

Studies may also include hard copy maps and fully annotated reports highlighting important features, to include not only existing impact sites but also those that have potential for future environmental impact.
