East Med Geological Mapping
Following the success of our recently completed East Africa Rift Study, Astrium GEO-Information Services has now completed the specification for a new integrated study over the East Mediterranean region.
Summary
The East Mediterranean study includes:- Interpretation of surface geologicalstructure at 1:100 000 – 1:250 000 scale
- Identification of major lithostratigraphicalunits at 1:250 000 – 1:500 000 scale
- Interpretation of major offshore structuralfeatures using public domain gravity andmagnetics data
- Offshore oil seep locations as points andvectors of slick outlines
- Capture of major drainage channels andwater bodies

The onshore component is based on primary interpretation of 15m Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery combined with a 90m SRTM elevation model. A full written report discusses the identified seeps in relation tothe regional structural setting and petroleum systems. By combining the interpretation study with identified hydrocarbon seeps the geological context of the seeps can be readily assessed.
Study deliverables
The final study deliverables are provided in digital format comprising an integrated ESRIArcGIS geodatabase and imagery datasets in raster format, with the following data and interpretation:
- Global Seeps (extract from the Astrium oilseeps database).
- Major drainage channels and water bodies
- Classified and attributed structural features
- Major stratigraphic units
- Superficial geology
- Seismic events
- 15m Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery in a 742(RGB) band combination
- SRTM 90m DEM in shaded relief form100m contours
- Radar imagery for key areas
