FAQs
What is Rapid Surveyor?
Rapid Surveyor™ is a new vehicle based mapping system which uses two lasers and two cameras to image the area around the vehicle.
What is the data used for?
Data captured by Rapid Surveyor is used for a variety of applications where precise measurements of the built or natural environment are required.
How does this data differ from maps?
Rapid Surveyor captures location information for every object in its range, including objects not traditionally mapped, for example the position of lamp posts or street signs.
Are the lasers safe?
The lasers on Rapid Surveyor are invisible to the human eye and completely eye safe.
Does this system see people?
Yes it is possible to see the outline of people in the laser data but these do not contain any recognisable details.
How dense is the laser point grid?
Point density of the laser depends on the speed of the vehicle but ranges from several hundred to several thousand per sq metre.
