Farm Management Services - FarmStar
Are you an arable grower or agronomist?
Could you benefit from being able to see how crops are growing in every corner of every field, at a glance?
We can help you by providing guidance and recommendation maps via FarmStar, our crop monitoring service.
FarmStar uses both satellite and airborne data to provide timely field-level maps for crops such as winter wheat, barley, oilseed rape, sugar beet and potatoes.
The map products are designed to provide information at critical growth stages to guide the use of inputs such as plant growth regulator and nitrogen, and aid general farm management decisions.
An example package for winter wheat:
- Shoot density (February)
- Absorbed nitrogen and N budget (February)
- Leaf Area Index (February)
- Fertile tiller density (Late March/Early April)
- Main N recommendation (Late March/Early April)
- Leaf Area Index (Late March/Early April)
- Lodging Risk (For 2nd PGR decision - Early May)
We have demonstrated the FarmStar service over 10,000Ha of wheat, barley and oilseed rape in the UK (Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire). We have also adapted the system for UK varieties and management practices, and are now in the process of scaling up to fully operational level.
In France the FarmStar system is already at operational level, with 6,000 growers subscribing for the 2004-5 season.
Farmstar is also being introduced in Germany, Spain, Canada, SouthAfrica and Australia.
